The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that Paulino, a free agent Minor League shortstop, has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for metabolites of Boldenone, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
The suspension will be effective immediately upon his signing with another Major League organization.
Paulino, 18, appeared in two games for the Red Sox's Dominican Summer League affiliate this month, getting eight at-bats on July 12 and 16. He had one single and struck out three times.
Paulino is the 56th player to be suspended this year and the fifth this month for violating the Minor League drug program. The past three suspensions have come from the DSL.
